Microsoft has formally unveiled two tablets – a new Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro operating system based tablets, which are called Surface. The Microsoft Surfaces have been designed and engineered entirely by the Microsoft itself.
According to Steve Ballmer, chief executive of Microsoft, they had wanted to give the software “its own companion hardware”.
The devices would contain 10.6 inch (26.9cm) displays, built-in kickstands and are housed in magnesium cases – which the company described as the first of their kind.
One of the devices is powered by Windows RT running on an ARM-based system, and other one with a third-generation Intel Core processor running on Windows 8 Pro.
Other thing, Microsoft has included a keyboard in the cover, which make input easier.
Microsoft official said, “Using a unique pressure-sensitive technology, Touch Cover senses keystrokes as gestures, enabling you to touch type significantly faster than with an on-screen keyboard and the cover clicks into Surface via a built-in magnetic connector”.
As far as weight is concerned both Surface tablets will weigh less than 1 kg.
There is no news regarding pricing or release dates from the company yet. But it is expected to be made available in the later part of this year.
Users can also add a 5mm-thick Type Cover that “adds moving keys for a more traditional typing feel”, said Microsoft official.
Surface tablets have an integrated kickstand that pops up ninja style.
